Whatta weekend!

Swimming, movieing, ducking and shopping.
I took a few days off (I'm certain work fell apart without me, I'll clean the place up tomorrow) so daughter and I could hang out. On one lovely sunny day we made the pilgrimage to the Wisconsin Dells. The highlight by far was the Wisconsin Ducks. If you do not know what these are, shame on you and get googling. I had actually grown up hearing about the "Wisconsin Ducks" and assuming it was just some stupid tourist thing, but Al assured us it was really quite fun. We purchased our tickets and went to stand in line, where we were accosted and forced to have our picture taken. I was a little confused at that, but shrugged and got in line for the Duck. Now, a Duck is a military vehicle that can be driven on land or water. It has two rows of bench seats and a canvas roof up top; daughter and I sat together with Al in front of us.
The driver revved up the Duck (AH! Loud!) and drove off. He was full of somewhat interesting information and really bad jokes. We headed off on a trail through the woods and were almost immediately treated to a moment of sheer terror. At one point the trail dips straight down and straight up again. As the driver took this section at top speed most of the passengers screamed and I think I hurt Al when I grabbed his arm. We passed through a lovely fern-filled glen that was about ten degrees cooler than the rest of the woods, and after some time we drove the vehicle right into the river. Very cool! The cliffs are lovely and we got to hear some crazy legends about why certain formations were shaped the way they were.
We drove back into the forest and through another glen, this one with cliffs about 2 inches from the side of the boat. After making a big splash into Lake Delton (I didn't get wet. Daughter did.), cruising the lake for a bit and heading back to dry land, the driver stopped to talk to us for a few minutes and try to get us to buy some postcards and junk. We passed on that.
Finally our journey came to an end and I had to tell Al that riding the Ducks had been a smashing idea and I would do it again ANY DAY! Highly recommended.
Except for the part where we disembarked and they tried to sell us a big packet of photos. Yes, the photo they took as we were lining up. Yes, a photo of us looking a bit confused. We passed on that.
On another stifling hot day, I thought a cool movie theater would be a good idea. Daughter and I went to see "Evan Almighty". I would recommend it as a cute, mindless movie. It was about what you'd expect and it got us out of the sun; what more can you ask? We did a wee bit of shopping afterwards but that was a waste of time for the most part.
Finally, knowing that the final day of our vacation was going to be HOT and MUGGY, we made plans to go to the city pool. Darn good idea. We played tag, jumped around (literally), did the water slide, got ice cream and just generally had a perfect summer day.
Honestly, I had the perfect summer vacation squished into five days. Wish you were here!

Naw, you didn't hurt me. Really glad you enjoyed the ride, though. Looking forward to the next trip.
