I can read

Stolen from my friend at Live Journal. Thanks, J! The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see. 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicise those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. 4) Reprint this list in your own blog. 1. Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 2. The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 3. Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 4. Harry Potter series - JK Rowling (read the first one) 5. To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6. The Bible 7. Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte 8 . Nineteen Eighty Four - George Orwell 9. His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman 10. Great Expectations - Charles Dickens 11. Little Women - Louisa M Alcott 12. Tess of the D'Urbervilles - Thomas Hardy 13. Catch 22 - Joseph Heller 14. Complete Works of Shakespeare 15. Rebecca - Daphne Du Maurier 16. The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien 17. Birdsong - Sebastian Faulks 18. Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger 19. The T

China Earthquake

~E~ The earthquake was, and still is, devastating. These strips are heartbreaking.

Spirit in the ... something

~E~ For this post, assume that ghosts and spirits are real if you don't already. I wonder why and how a spirit chooses where it hangs out. Does it hang out where it's body is interred? If a ghost is emotional or psychic energy, it seems the body wouldn't have a whole lot to do with it. And in that case, explain why people expect to see ghosts in graveyards. If ghosts are remnants of psychic energy, I would think it would be more likely to find one where someone died and released that energy so hospitals would theoretically be full of ghosts. You don't hear about that much except in reference to old abandoned hospitals. Perhaps ghosts reside where the psychic energy was imprinted over a long period of time, so you'd expect to find ghosts in homes where supposedly a lot of them show up. I think it's interesting that some ghosts reportedly repeat the same action over and over, like walking down a certain stretch of hallway or sitting at a window looking out. Why wo

I want to ride my bicycle

Image
~E~ I got a bike and spent the entire first weekend riding around with Daughter. I am officially very happy. My bike is a "Townie", a rather yuppie vehicle, and I love it. It's very light, it has the handy rack on the back for carrying things, and it's just a cool looking bike, I think. I'm looking forward to more fun and exercise. Come ride with me!

Misirlou

~E~ This made me laugh, and that's always a good thing. Good music, but the band in the background looks like the Living Dead.

This so-called primary season

~E~ I started this democratic primary season excited that there were so many really great candidates to choose from. That doesn't happen very often and with the way things are going with the current administration, we do need a change. To put it mildly. My first choice withdrew, leaving Obama and Clinton. These were two people I could still get behind. I admired them both, had a few small reservations about each of them, but no candidate is perfect. At least this year I had a choice between two I liked, not choosing the lesser of two nasty bottom-dwelling somewhat lifelike beings. A woman and a black man running for the presidency, and having a real shot at it is something I wasn't sure I would ever see in my lifetime. Going to the polls and casting my vote brought tears to my eyes. Either way, what an historic moment! (I've voted in every election since I was 18) Sadly, now I'm well on my way to not really caring at all. Something else I never thought I'd see in my

Parenting

~E~ Parenting is something one should take seriously. Your children are not things for you to manipulate at your pleasure. They are human beings, and they learn from how you treat them. If your child avoids you and wants nothing to do with you, perhaps you should do some soul-searching. This has been a public service announcement.
