Domestic abuse sucks

An acquaintance of mine is in a very bad spot. I had it bad, but not as bad as she has it now. All of her friends and family have turned away from her because they are sick of dealing with it. I understand, but shit-- how sick do you think SHE is of dealing with it? Why don't they turn away from the person who is emotionally abusing her and beating the shit out of her and their kid? I will never understand that.

Everyone continues to be his best friend and go along with him when he puts her down and accuses her of doing Bad Stuff. Stuff which she may be doing but isn't Bad, like having a drink or going out with friends. Stuff that he is definitely doing himself in spades, AND beating up his girlfriend in front of the kids, but she's the evil bitch who is driving him to behave the way he does. Nothing is his fault.

I can't do much for her but listen to her and believe her. That, from my own experience, is a huge thing in itself but it won't get her out of there. I am trying to get her to call the domestic abuse hotline, but that's a huge and scary step to take.

I don't know how much of this I can deal with. I have to find a balance between helping her where I can and not getting drawn into some very triggering situations.

WHY the fuck do people side with the abuser time and time again?? It kills people.

THIS MAKES ME SO ANGRY. What the hell is the matter with people!?

You are so good, Eileen, so wonderful. Please take good care of yourself in this - it looks like you recognize the risks of getting too pulled in. You can't make her call the domestic abuse hotline but you can listen to her. I'm so glad I know people like you, Eileen.
I called her a few times but like always no one answers the phone. I can't exactly leave a message. Frustrating.

This may sound cliche, but I worry about the kids in all of this. I was exposed to those situations as a child and it was terrifying. For the sake of both her and her children, I hope things soon change for the better.
